Community Safety Helpers- Police Officers

This week we learned who the community safety helpers are. Community Helpers are people who protect us, making our life safe. We had chance to meet some of them on Wednesday.

Police officers make sure that people follow rules and that they protect people from danger. Every police officer has a special badge with his or her name and a number, they have radio phone and handcuffs that they use in a case when someone doesn't cooperate.

A police car is supplied with a radio, and  flashing colored lights. These lights flash in order to attract the attention of other road users as the police car approaches. In addition to visual warnings, most police cars are also fitted with sirens, which can alert people and cars to the presence of the police car. We were so lucky to get into the police car and to test the siren and lights.

Here are some of the rules that we learned from the Police Officers:

  Never talk to stranger! Say "NO" if a stranger offers you a candy, toy or a ride. RUN away and get help from an adult.

  Always say "NO" to anyone who offers you to do something what you know is not right. For example, take someone's toy without asking.
• 
  
  Try not to walk anywhere alone. Always ask your parents before going anywhere. 
• 
  
  When you ride a bicycle, wear a helmet. It will protect your head. 
• 
  
  Buckle up in the car!
• 
  
  Always cross the street at a corner. Stop, look and listen before crossing the street.
• 
  
  Never, ever run into the street. 

It happened that when we talked to the police officers Alisa accidently dropped her little ball. The ball rolled out into the street. Alisa was very nerveous. She did not run into the street but asked adults to get her ball. A police officer got her ball, saying that Alisa made a right choice following the rule "Never run into the street."
