Sefiras Haomer- Counting the Omer

Our friends had different ideas what the purpose of counting is.

Daniel Rosen: To know when we'll get the Torah
Daniel Perkevald: Because we want to know what is the biggest number of all
Ryan: To know what time it is
Avi: To know where the numbers end
Dalia: To know how long it takes to clean up
Rachel: So we can know what time to go to school
Alisa: To count which things we need.

Our friends had great ideas. We then talked about why we count the Omer.

When Jewish people left Egypt they were very excited. They would finally be able to be free to serve Hashem.  They knew that in 49 days they were going to get the Torah on Har Sinai! The Jewish were so happy! They counted the days as they went by, excitedly waiting until the 49 days would be done!

Sefira and Math:
We used counter chips to discover that 49 days is the same as 7 weeks.
7 days X 7 weeks = 49 days

Song:
12345 We count the days as they arrive,
And when we reach 49 we know that its Shavous time!
