Improving Your Child's Attention Span
For both the school year and the summer, here are some ideas (from Loren Shlaes, OT) on how to improve your child's attention span.

Highlights of the week
Oh! What a week it was! Take a look!
On Monday, we decided to free our butterflies.
We learned that the butterflies could fly higher than a house.
We found a perfect flower for one of the butterflies.
The real experience!
We welcomed the new month Tamuz and celebrated it with Rosh Hodesh Cookies and Pizza (we enjoyed Rosh Hodesh:))
On Tuesday, we visited Staten Island Children's Museum.
Look carefully. What do you see? A real active beehive with a thousand honeybees!
We were able to see how these very busy insects live, how do they make honey.
A sudden discovery- an Earth Worm that is not an insect according to Pre-K insectologists.
We observed how this facinating crawler moves without legs. Cool!
An exciting celebration! Our Alef Beis Party in honor of completing all the Alef Beis letters!
I know my Alef- Beis
Yummy Alef Beis Treat- Cookies
Living and Non- Living Things
We continued learning about animals. On Monday, we had an unexpected guest in our classroom. The second graders kindly let us borrow their pet hamster Teddy. We had so much fun! But it was not a purpose of Teddy's visit. First, we reviewed what is a mammal and concluded that Teddy is truly a mammal. He has fur, morah told us that hamsters give birth to alive babies, and feed them with milk. Morah asked us what do we think Teddy needs to be healthy and happy. After long discussion everyone agreed that he needs food, water, a training wheel to exercise and friends like us.
Then morah asked who do we think else need food, water, air to breath and of course friends. It was easy- shmeesy! Everyone agreed that we do, we need food, water, air and friends:) Morah told us that things that need food, air, water, things that grow and change are living things. When we looked around we noticed the living things in our classroom- the Armadillo lizard, crickets, the fish and even our plant are living things.
It happened that our friend Daniel P. brought his toy- pet hamster Jumpy in the classroom to share with the friends. Oh, now everyone was challenged to think if Jumpy is a living thing. He moved, he made some sound. Hm? Which one of the hamsters is living and which one is a non-living thing. After long discussion we concluded that Teddy is the living thing, Jumpy is not. Teddy needs food, water and air to breath. Jumpy doesn't. Teddy runs on four legs, Jumpy is on the wheels. Teddy needs food to get energy to run and play, Jumpy needs a battery.
